About fit4funding - The Charities Information Bureau - Introduction

The Charities Information Bureau was established in 1981, and is a registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee. In 2006 we decided to adopt the public name of "fit4funding".

fit4funding  - The Charities Information Bureau works across the United Kingdom, but is based in and has its main focus in West Yorkshire .

Our aims:

  • To create a level playing field in funding.
  • To ensure voluntary and community groups have the skills, knowledge and support needed to access and manage the funds that enable them to achieve their objectives.

Our services:

  • Training on topics covering every aspect of the funding process - from giving grants, to accessing and managing funds, to giving funding advice.
  • Information, support and advice on funding and funding related management issues in a variety of formats.
  • One to one support and consultancy to meet particular areas of need.
  • Work with funders and policy makers to promote accessible and inclusive funding processes.

Who we work with:

  • Voluntary and community groups - to help them develop skills and knowledge that empower them to develop and sustain their activities which meet community need.
  • Funding advisors - to ensure voluntary and community groups have access to high quality funding advice, and that advisors can develop the skills and support they need for themselves.
  • Grant givers - to ensure access to funding is fair and straightforward, assessment criteria are objective, and grant givers can develop their own skills and knowledge.
  • Funders and policy makers - to ensure the sector has a voice and is included in processes, discussions and decisions that affect them.

fit4funding is the link between national and local in funding advice. For local organisations it is the key agency:

  • in the provision of appropriate funding training.
  • taking the lead in making national information accessible to local services.
  • providing national training, and national practice in giving funding advice with others in shaping standards for the provision of funding advice services.

fit4funding delivers services to all groups in the voluntary and community sector. Our priorities for allocation of scarce resources are in encouraging groups facing disadvantage for example: small groups especially BME groups, rural groups, women's groups, groups led by people with disabilities, and groups which otherwise find mainstream agencies hard-to-reach. This includes supporting the advisors that work with them.

fit4funding works towards achieving its values which are to be:

  • Responsive to needs.
  • Accessible to groups in need.
  • Honest in all our work.
  • And to provide services which are:
    • Within our quality framework.
    • Working towards equality.
