Not all funders use application forms. If a funder asks you to apply, you will need to write an appeal for funding in a letter and send it to the contact listed.  Smaller funders will not always have the resources to acknowledge that they have received every request for funding.

'The Ark' Grants

What is funded: Children, young people, elderly and disabled people, ethnic minorities, people with learning disabilities
What is not funded: Individuals, salaries
Where funding can be given: Girlington, Heaton and Manningham
Range of grants: Maximum grant 500
Total funding available per year: Variable but not more than 5,000.
How to apply: Application forms are available from The Ark contact Mrs Mollie Somerville, The Ark, 89 Heights Lane, Heaton, Bradford BD9 6DU. Closing dates for applications are on 31st March and 30th September each year.

Baildon Mechanics' Institute

What is funded: Anything that is for the benefit of Baildon residents
What is not funded: Anything that Bradford Council would normally pay for
Where funding can be given: Former Urban District Council of Baildon
Range of grants: Varies depending on funding available
Total funding available per year: Typically around 500
How to apply: By letter to Claire Tomensen, Bradford Council, Room 112, City Hall, Bradford BD1 1HY. The closing date for applications is three weeks after the funding is advertised (which is usually by mid-January).

Barbara A Shuttleworth Memorial Trust

What is funded: Grants to improve the lives of disabled people, especially children. Most grants are given to groups rather than individuals.
Where funding can be given: UK with a preference for West Yorkshire
Range of grants: No minimum or maximum grant
Total funding available per year: 30,000 in 2009/10, 20,000 thereafter
How to apply: By letter to John Alistair Baty, Baty Casson Long, Shears Yard, 21 Wharf Street, The Calls, Leeds LS2 7EQ. The trustees meet three times a year dates of meetings vary. The trust has a wide range of contacts with other charities and may refer applicants to a more appropriate funder.

Bowcock Trust Fund for Keighley

What is funded: Individuals in need, some organisations, poverty, hardship and people in higher education and training, subject to circumstances
Where funding can be given: Beneficiaries must live in the Borough of Keighley as constituted on 31st March 1974 (excludes Steeton and Silsden, but extends to Oxenhope, Howarth and Morton)
Range of grants: No minimum grant, maximum grant 350
Total funding available per year: 9,500
How to apply: By letter to Mr P Vaux, Old Mill House, Dockroyd, Oakworth, Keighley BD22 7RH. Lists of people needing support with higher education are provided by schools. Requests for other grants for individual assistance should come though a third party such as a citizens advice bureau, which has vetted the individual case. Applications can be turned around quickly.

Bradford & District Childrens Charitable Circle

What is funded: Individuals and groups. Will pay for furniture etc and certain holidays
What is not funded: Children over 16 years of age, debts or service bills eg gas, electricity, other charities eg Save the Children
Where funding can be given: Bradford Metropolitan District
Range of grants: Grants are usually no more than 100 per child
Total funding available per year: 7,000 given out in grants in 1999
How to apply: By letter to Mrs M Seal, 24 Hazel Beck, Bingley BD16 1LZ for monthly meetings.

Bradford Cinderella Club

What is funded: Under-privileged children to help them take part in activities in the same way as their more fortunate school mates. Lack of parental income is not necessarily the only criterion used: there may be other deciding factors such as neglect, or physical or mental disabilities.
What is not funded:  Capital purchases, construction projects, activities outside the UK mainland. It is unlikely that funding will be available for other children or adult helpers
Where funding can be given: Across Bradford district
Range of grants: Usually 100-2,000
Total funding available per year: Variable
How to apply: Applications should be through an organisation involved with children. The club sends out forms to schools but community groups can also apply for funding on behalf of one or more individual children. They are assessed at meetings that are usually held on the second Thursday of each month (except August). Forms should be submitted at least two months before the event for which funding is required. Constance Green Foundation

What is funded: In previous years, grants have been made mainly but not exclusively to national organisations in the fields of social welfare and medicine with special emphasis on the support of young people in need and both mentally and physically disabled people. Preference is given to making grants to assist in funding special projects being undertaken by charities rather than grants to supplement funds used for general purposes. In considering all appeals for major grants the trustees will take into account, where appropriate, the applicants reserves. Grants can be made only to trusts, associations, institutions or organisations recognised as charitable by the laws of England.
What is not funded: Sponsorship of individuals
Where funding can be given: England with some preference for charities in Yorkshire
Range of grants: Usually 1,000-10,000
Total funding available per year: Usually about 325,000
How to apply:  By letter to Mrs S Hall, FCCA, FCM Limited, Centenary House, La Grande Route de St Pierre, St Peter, Jersey, Channel Islands JE3 7AY. Applicants should include clear details of the need the intended project is designed to meet and an outline budget. The trustees meet three times a year deadlines are usually 31 May for the July meeting, 30 September for the November meeting and 31 January for the March meeting.

Craven Trust

What is funded: Groups: equipment and capital purchases, training for volunteers and trustees, project start-up costs. Individuals: items, services and facilities to relieve severe cases of domestic hardship
What is not funded: National/medical charities (except for occasional projects in area), animal charities, students, foreign travel. Generally the trust does not fund running costs such as salaries
Where funding can be given: Parts of West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria including Keighley, Steeton, Silsden, Oakworth, Wilsden and Denholme
Range of grants: Usually 100 to 1,000
How to apply: Download guidelines and application form from www.craventrust.org.uk or request application pack from Linda Lee, 4 Halsteads Way, Steeton, BD20 6SN, tel (01535) 653373, email enquiries@craventrust.org.uk  The trustees meet four times a year in January, April, July and October applications should be submitted a month in advance.
Individual applications should preferably come through a referral agency or a referee eg Citizens Advice Bureau, BMDC adult services, vicar/doctor, key worker.

Denton Charitable Trust

What is funded: Children, adolescents, elderly and disabled people and cancer care charities. Priority is given to smaller applicants and social welfare projects. Individuals can be funded.
What is not funded: Sponsorship
Where funding can be given: Yorkshire
Range of grants: Grants are usually for around 500 and are given to causes where the trustees think this amount will do the most good
Total funding available per year: Variable expenditure was 10,610 in 2009.
How to apply: By letter to Mrs S J Wood, Crook Farm, Denton, Ilkley, West Yorkshire LS29 0HP. The trustees meet twice a year in May and November. Applications should be submitted in good time.

Fred Towler Charitable Trust

What is funded: Aged, sick relief, young people and holiday fund for older people
Where funding can be given: Diocese of Bradford
Range of grants: Minimum grant 100
Total funding available per year: About 26,000
How to apply: By letter to P G Meredith, Baker Tilly, The Waterfront, Salts Mill Road, Saltaire, Shipley BD17 7EZ. The trustees meet twice a year in June and early December applications should be submitted a week in advance

George A Moore Foundation

What is funded: General community benefit including the environment
What is not funded: Students, travel
Where funding can be given: Yorkshire and the Isle of Man
Range of grants: Minimum grant 250, maximum grant usually 500-2,500 except in exceptional circumstances
Total funding available per year: 250,000 for Yorkshire
How to apply: By letter to Mitre House, North Park Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG1 5RX. The trustees meet four times a year the timing of meetings varies.

Graham Kirkham Foundation

What is funded: General charitable purposes including education, relief of poverty and illness, rescue animals and birds, drug dependency, social welfare and public recreation, preservation of buildings and sites. Grants are made to individuals and groups.
Where funding can be given: UK with a preference for Yorkshire
Range of grants: No maximum and minimum grants
How to apply: By letter to Kerry Horne, 1 Rockingham Way, Redhouse Interchange, Adwick-le-Street, Doncaster DN6 7NA.

Ilkley Community Fund

What is funded: Work with young people including sport, art and recreation
What is not funded: Work with older people, individuals
Where funding can be given: Ilkley and district including Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale and Menston
Range of grants: No maximum or minimum grant, average grant is 250
Total funding available per year: About 5,000 in a typical year
How to apply: The fund is advertised in the Ilkley Gazette at the beginning of November and application forms are available in the Ilkley Good Neighbours shop at this time. Alternatively, by letter to Geoffrey de Vere MBE, 30 Kings Road, Ilkley LS29 9AN in time for distribution of grants.

Lord Barnby's Foundation

What is funded: Registered charities, heritage, countryside, ex-servicemen, youths, refugees, Polish people
Where funding can be given: England and Wales, prefer Yorkshire particularly Bradford
Range of grants: No maximum or minimum grant figure
Total funding available per year: Around 200,000 although larger sums are sometimes given for specific projects
How to apply: By letter to Mrs Jane Lethbridge, PO Box 71, Plymstock, Plymouth PL8 2YP. The trustees meet three times a year in February/March, June and November

J C J Eaton Charitable Trust

What is funded: Holistic, naturopathic and environmental objects and projects. Groups with charitable aims (mainly registered charities). Nearly all the trusts income is committed to 40-50 regular charities other projects are funded occasionally in exceptional circumstances.
What is not funded: Individuals
Where funding can be given: National, mainly West Yorkshire
Range of grants: 10-50
Total funding available per year: 2,000
How to apply: By letter to John Eaton, Bracken Ridge, Cottingley Wood, near Bingley, West Yorkshire BD16 1NG. There are no deadlines.

Linden Charitable Trust

What is funded: Projects with general community benefit, preference for medical issues
What is not funded: Individuals
Where funding can be given: UK, with a strong preference for West Yorkshire
Range of grants: Maximum grant 2,000
Total funding available: About 70,000 per year
How to apply: By letter to Baker Tilly, The Waterfront, Salts Mill Road, Saltaire, Shipley BD17 7EZ. The trustees meet just after the new year so applications should be submitted by the beginning of December.

Salt Foundation

What is funded: Grants for educational purposes to schools and individuals
What is not funded: School projects that could be funded from elsewhere eg by the local authority
Where funding can be given: To schools and individuals resident in the former Shipley Urban District Council boundaries (mainly BD18 postcode)
Range of grants: Maximum grant to individuals is 200
Total funding available per year: In August 2009 the trustees had not made any grants for three years because the terms of the trust deed require them to maintain properties including Victoria Hall. On 8 September 2009, the trustees made a decision not to award any grants in the financial year 2009/10.
How to apply: By letter to Mrs M Davies, 17 Springfield Road, Baildon BD17 5NA. The trustees meet twice a year in September and December.

Samuel Sunderland Relief in Need Charity

What is funded: Welfare purposes in Bingley. Groups have occasionally been funded but the trustees prefer to give financial assistance to individuals in need.
There is also a Relief in Sickness Fund, which provides holidays for children with mental or physical disabilities.
What is not funded:  Needs that could be provided for from elsewhere or from a statutory body.
Where funding can be given: Within the former Bingley parish council boundaries (includes Crossflatts, Wilsden, Harden, Cottingley and Eldwick)
Range of grants: Average grant 500, minimum grant 50
Total funding available per year: Relatively limited
How to apply: By letter to J Daykin, 120 Main Street, Bingley BD16 2JJ. The trustees meet twice a year in February and November.

Scurrah Wainwright Charity

What is funded: Innovative work in the field of social reform with a preference for root cause rather than palliative projects. Causes that are outside the mainstream and unlikely to be funded by other charities. The charity will contribute to core costs.
What is not funded: Individuals; animal welfare; buildings; medical research or support for individuals with medical conditions; substitution for government funding; charities sending unsolicited general appeal letters
Where funding can be given: England (mainly Yorkshire and the north of England), Zimbabwe, southern Africa
Range of grants: Typically 1,000-5,000. Larger grants are only given in exceptional circumstances.
Total funding available per year: Variable
How to apply: By post to Kerry McQuade, 16 Blenheim Street, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire HX7 8BU or by email to admin@wainwrighttrusts.org.uk  The trustees meet three times a year: applications should arrive not later than 1st February, 1st June or 1st October. A complete application should include background information about your organisation; the nature of the project and what it seeks to achieve; plans for practical implementation of the work and a budget; your most recent annual accounts and details of any additional sources of funding already secured or being sought; whether you will accept a contribution to the amount requested, where you heard about the charity; and a summary on no more than two sides of A4 using a font no smaller than 12 point. Sir George Martin Trust

What is funded: Countryside, environmental and green issues; church appeals with an outreach factor; capital requests from theatres, museums and hospices; childrens charities and activities; older people including holidays, winter aid and Christmas parties. The trust also funds social welfare eg playgroups and visits and holidays for children and disabled people.
What is not funded: Organisations without charitable status; state-funded education; medical appeals and research; individuals in the arts. The trust is reluctant to give general running costs or to projects previously supported by state funds.
Where funding can be given: Mainly in North and West Yorkshire with a preference for Bradford and Leeds and rural areas
Range of grants: Maximum grant 5k, average grant 1,250.
Total funding available per year: Variable
How to apply: By letter to PJD Marshall OBE, Sir George Martin Trust, Netherwood House, Ilkley LS29 9RP in no more than two sides of A4. Where possible, applicants should enclose their latest report and accounts, a budget for the application and details of any support obtained to date. The trustees meet in early July, November and March of each year and applications should be submitted at least six weeks before meetings if possible. Do not email.
The trust prefers to adopt a one-off approach to grant-giving. In 2009/10 it is taking a fundraising sabbatical and grant-making will be extremely limited. For more information call (01943) 831019 although it is better to write.

Stell Settlement (aka Ilkley Charitable Trust)

What is funded: General charitable purposes
What is not funded: Individuals
Where funding can be given: Preference for Ilkley and Yorkshire
Range of grants: 250-375
Total funding available per year: 3,250 in 2008/9
How to apply: By letter to Mr C L Clarkson, Home Croft, Linton, Skipton, BD23 5HH. The trustees meet in March applications should be submitted by the end of February

St Martins in the Field

What is funded: Crisis fund for relief in need where time is an important consideration. The money is intended for the whole community of need, regardless of gender, ethnic group, country of origin, legal status or religion. In 2009/10 funds are available for tenancy support rather than family support and are for people in danger of being homeless, people who are currently homeless, destitute and/or vulnerable and people who have experience of being homeless and are attempting to establish or maintain a tenancy.
What is not funded: Course fees and expenses; holidays, respite breaks, school or church trips; specialised equipment (wheelchairs, stairlifts, motability schemes etc); childcare expenses; toys, books and play equipment; structural or landscaping renovations; TVs or audio equipment, and licence fees; medical treatments and prescription fees; admin charges, court fines and professional fees; computer hardware or software
Where funding can be given: Grants distributed on behalf of St Martins in the Field in Bradford district by Diocese of Bradford
Range of grants: Average grant 165, maximum grant 250
How to apply: Individuals wishing to apply should contact their local parish priest, who can be found at http://bradford.anglican.org/parish/  There is a simple form to complete and return.

Tony Bramall Charitable Trust

What is funded: Children in need and medical research or causes aimed at improving welfare of sick or those suffering infirmities. Funding is almost exclusively for groups rather than individuals.
Where funding can be given: UK with some preference for Yorkshire
Range of grants: No maximum or minimum grant
Total funding available per year: Variable
How to apply: By letter to Mr DCA Bramall, 12 Cardale Court, Cardale Park, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG3 1RY. No fixed deadlines.

Viscount Mountgarret House of Rest Trust

What is funded: Mainly for individuals in need to buy items, medical equipment, some services. Funding for community groups, churches and hospices. Must have exhausted statutory funding or service options.
Where funding can be given: Across Bradford district
Range of grants: No maximum or minimum grant but grants are small
Total funding available per year: Variable
