Wakefield - Council Funding

Council's Community Chest

Each of the Wards in Wakefield has an allocation of 10,000, bids are invited for the grant from 'not for profit' voluntary, community and recreational groups working in the Wakefield District area. Grants are available for the purchase of specific items or towards the cost of specific pieces of work that increase and enhance community activity through projects or schemes that improve the quality of life in local neighbourhoods.

Criteria have been set by which each bid will be assessed and these are described in more detail in the Guidance Notes for applicants. Because the grants are awarded by the Wakefield MDC, the criteria have been set to ensure that any monies allocated will assist the Council in achieving the key themes contained within the Fast Forward Community Strategy - and so work towards providing better services for the people of the District. These are:

  • Feeling and being safer (Projects tackling crime, community safety or that address perceptions around the fear of crime)
  • Looking after ourselves (Projects around healthy living, sports, recreation, active lifestyles, social well being)
  • Investing in our people (Projects around lifelong learning, education, training, improving access/opportunities to stimulate local knowledge and understanding, fostering social inclusion)
  • Improving our places (Projects around the local (physical) environment - buildings, landscaping, culture and leisure opportunities)
  • Developing a dynamic local economy (Projects that contribute to sustainable growth in the district's town and village centres)

Every effort is made to ensure the application forms and process around the Community Chest Fund is open, transparent and user-friendly for community groups. The application pack is available through their Elected Members or by contacting the Community Engagement Team Tel: 01924 305817 Email: engagement@wakefield.gov.uk
