Voluntary Action Calderdale provides information and support to groups throughout the Calderdale area in:

  • Setting up groups
  • Constitutions and legal status
  • Planning and management
  • Looking for sources of funding
  • Help with funding applications
  • Any other aspects of group development such as project planning / writing a business plan

Training

Voluntary Action Calderdale run a selection of training for volunteers and paid workers within the voluntary and community sector including subjects such as training for management committees, finance courses, budgeting and policy development courses. Help is available to identify skill and learning needs of staff, volunteers and trustees. For further information and to receive a training programme contact:

Funding Support and Advice

We can offer advice and support on all aspects of fundraising for voluntary and community groups including: project planning, budgets and can support groups to complete funding application forms. Information sheets and funding directories can be made available.

Training Sessions

Fit4funding run training sessions throughout West Yorkshire on fundraising skills for community groups. Some of these run throughout Calderdale and and also at fit4funding Wakefield premises at 93 Lawefield Lane, Wakefield

WYCAS (West Yorkshire Community Accounting Service)

formerly BALCAS, provides low cost, professional accounting services and financial training to voluntary sector groups across West Yorkshire (mainly aimed at organisations with an annual turnover of less than £100,000).

The Community Foundations Main Grants Programme
The Foundations main grants programme is made up of various named funds. See below for the special areas of interest that these funds cover.

Bill & Val Rooney Fund

Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups in Calderdale with a particular interest in projects benefiting elderly people.
Gartland Family Trust
Supports a wide range of groups across Calderdale but especially considers projects that benefit people with learning difficulties.
Ann & Tony Gartland
General Fund (incorporating Ludlum Trust, Setbray Properties, Andy Thornton Ltd, Somerscales & Bowcock, Bowling Green & Nutton)
Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary & community groups and individuals in Calderdale.
George Normanton Christmas Box Fund
Supporting elderly people.
Halifax Courier Fund (incorporating the Oates Fund)
Supports applications that benefit young people either with sports or where a community facility is concerned.
Halifax Old Folks Holiday Fund
This fund awards small grants of up to £150 towards holidays and short breaks for elderly people, who would not otherwise be able to get away.
Individual Fund
The Individual Fund supports people facing disadvantage or deprivation and whose needs cannot be met readily from any other source, be it statutory or charitable. This fund is able to help meet a wide range of needs in many differing situations, particularly to help provide essential items for people in crisis. It does not support student fees or expedition expenses. The maximum amount available is £100 and all applications have to be completed by a referring agency, eg. Citizen's Advice Bureau or Social Services.
John Smith's Lionheart Fund
John Smith's particularly like to support community facilities that are of benefit to a diverse range of people.
Kathleen Mary Denham Fund
Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups in Calderdale.
Kingscliffe Fund
Supports projects involving young people between 10 and 20 but only in Brighouse, Rastrick, Northowram & Lightcliffe.
Lee Crossley Welfare Fund
For the maintenance of gravestones at both King Cross and All Saints Cemeteries
Marshalls Fund
For the benefit of children and young people, and groups with an environmental theme.
Nestlé in the Community
Nestlé support projects in the community that focus on our company strategies of nutrition, health and wellness and sustainability.
Pliny Barrett Fund
This fund is for the support Foundation itself, and for the general benefit of Calderdale community and voluntary organisations.
Provident Insurance Fund
Provident Insurance Fund particularly likes to support projects that benefit young people.
Samuel Watson Batty Fund
Support with fuel costs for the elderly in the King Cross area.
Stephen Pearson Memorial Fund
This donor supports projects in the Pellon area of Halifax.
Todmorden Fund
Supports a wide variety of applications for voluntary and community groups operating in Todmorden.
Werner Townley Fund
Aims to promote community cohesion and harmony in Calderdale.
